REGULATION 2019

1. Access

The 2019 Academic Year of the Italian Conducting Academy is divided as follows:

– THREE-YEAR HIGH TRAINING

– TWO-YEAR MASTER COURSE

Musicians of all nationalities and of both sexes must meet the following requirements:

– maximum age for access to the Three-year High Training: 30 years by the 31st December 2018

– no age limit for access to the Two-Year Master Course

Admission is subject to passing a test, an interview with the Teacher and a rehearsal with the orchestra.  The youngest candidates without any previous conducting experience and who feel they are not suitable, may be exempted from the exam with the orchestra. They must still send the application and ask to sustain only the test and the interview with the Teacher. The result of the exam will be based on the test, the interview and the curriculum of studies presented. It should be noted that candidates for this type of examination must already be in possession of the minimum principles inherent to the basic conducting technique: natural gesture, ability to beat simple and complex rhythms, first sight-reading of simple orchestral scores. For this type of students there is a special “Juniores” section.

Test with the orchestra.  All candidates must prepare the following compositions:

BRAHMS – Symphony No. 4 in E minor, op.98 (I movement)

MOZART – Symphony n. 41 in C Major K 551 “Jupiter” (I and II movement)

 Test-Interview with the Teacher

A test and an interview with the Teacher are scheduled after the rehearsals with the orchestra. The interview cannot be held before the orchestra rehearsal.

  • Interview of a musical, general and motivational nature.
  • Only for the Two-Year Master Course: Test of inherent conducting technique: Stravinsky – Concerto in E flat “Dumbarton Oaks”. The candidate will have to conduct some extracts without the orchestra, singing the main parts of the score.
  • Knowledge of harmony, musical forms, repertoire and instrumental techniques.

The admission exams will be held on 24th, 25th (Orchestra) and 26th (Interview) November 2018. The exact day, place and time of the tests will be subsequently communicated to the admitted candidates.

Two-Year Master Course

A pre-selection will be made through the vision of one video that must be viewable on-line through a link indicated by the candidate. Recordings should consist of some excerpts, with contrasting repertoire demonstrating a variety of styles and tempos. The camera should be placed at the back of the orchestra with the framing directly in front of the conductor. A large orchestra is not required; an ensemble is sufficient. The candidate’s name, the link and the list of works with relative durations must be specified on the application form. If the candidate passes the pre-screening he/she will be invited to the audition with the orchestra.

Auditors

At the Teacher’s discretion, Auditors are allowed (exclusively for orchestra rehearsals).

2Organization of meetings

The lessons will take place throughout the year with eight meetings from January to June and from September to December. Seven sessions will be with the orchestra, articulated in different organics: string orchestra, ensemble, chamber orchestra and symphony orchestra. The first meeting will be dedicated to theoretical lessons. Each study session will take place from Thursday to Sunday. The “ClassicaViva” Orchestra, engaged for the lessons, will be organized by the ClassicaViva Music Association with the highest criteria of professionalism and competence. The Teacher can avail himself of the collaboration of an Assistant. The first lesson will take place on the 17,18, 19 and 20 January 2019.

3. Application for admission

In the application for admission the candidate must expressly indicate which exam he wishes to attend. The application must be accompanied by the qualifications of studies and artistic documentation, a short biography (max 10 lines) and a color photograph of the face in high resolution digital format (1200 × 1600). Only the Two-Year Master Course application must be integrated by the video. By November 15th, 2018, it will be the candidate’s responsibility to communicate the link of the video required for admission to the Two-Year Master Course. A copy of the Identity Card or Passport and the PDF of the bank transfer must be attached to the application.
